| Gout surge blamed on sweet drinks
Sugary drinks have been blamed for a surge in cases of the painful joint disease gout. Men who consume two or more sugary soft drinks a day have an 85% higher risk of gout compared with those who drink less than one a month, a study suggests. Cases in the US have doubled in recent decades and it seems fructose, a type of sugar, may be to blame, the British Medical Journal study reports. UK experts said those with gout would be advised to cut out sugary drinks. About 1.5% of the UK population currently suffers from gout and there has been an increase in numbers over the last 30 years - although the condition is more associated with Victorian times. .
Permanent makeup lures some to needle
No one said looking good is supposed to be painless. That maxim rang especially true as Julie Wallace leaned over to tattoo the outline of Nancy Wallace's lips with ink the color of Jamaican Rum. It was quiet inside A Perfect Line Academy of Permanent Cosmetics, except for the soft hum of Wallace's permanent makeup pen. Wallace, 29, used one gloved hand to steady the lip, while the other lowered the tool's needle to blend the color in. Then she pulled back. "You've got color!" Wallace said to the patient who happened to be her mother. Cathy Klemz peered in for a closer look. "It doesn't look clowny at all," said Klemz, a permanent makeup technician and trainer. "It looks nice and very natural." The process of getting one's lips outlined typically takes as long as twohours and plenty of topical cream to numb the pain.
Powerful Union Accuses Schröder of 'Failure'
The SPD's popularity has fallen to an unparalleled low in recent months, while the Greens have recorded major gains in regional elections despite the fact that, as the SPD's junior coalition partner, they are also responsible for Germany's current social and economic policies. Bsirske, as well as other union leaders, are hoping to strengthen the rebellious left-wingers within the SPD -- many of whom harbor nagging doubts about the political reorientation of their party, which has traditionally represented the interests of the underprivileged in society. Schröder: I'm not budging For his part, Schröder told the newsweekly Der Spiegel that the "unions need to abandon their abstract considerations instead ask concrete questions in their companies." Schröder said the unions should focus on what's really best for their workers.
Hank Aaron believes baseball can move on
You'll see. When the season starts, we'll again be drawing fans. People will come out to watch these kids play." He declined to say whether he found Clemens' testimony believable, taking the same tact he consistently followed when similar charges were leveled against Barry Bonds, the guy who broke the Hammer's long ball record last season. "Only Roger can answer to that," Aaron said. "I can't answer to that. I can't say what happened." He did seem to take a poke at Clemens by bringing up Andy Pettitte, the Rocket's good friend and former teammate. Pettitte has admitted using HGH and claimed under oath that Clemens revealed in private conversations nearly a decade ago that he used it, too. Reporting to the Yankees camp on Monday, Pettitte apologized for his mistakes and admitted his revelations about Clemens put a strain on their relationship.
Team India in city
Cricket passion today reached a feverish pitch with the arrival of the 14-member Indian team here at Hotel Mountview this evening. The team, however, was in no mood to hang around the hotel where it was greeted by fans amid heavy security. However, Harbhajan, Rahul, Sehwag, RP Singh and Sachin obliged the fans with autographs. Without giving the mediapersons an opportunity to interact, Rahul and his team scurried out of the lobby through a side exit and went to their hotel rooms upstairs. It was a long and disappointing wait for reporters and television crews. However, they appeared somewhat dejected, probably after the three-wicket defeat at the hands of West Indies, who became the second team to qualify for the semifinals. Scheduled to play the knock-out match against Australia at the PCA Stadium on October 29, the team decided against any practice session today.
State's delegates move to McCain column
The odds are he (McCain) is our presumptive nominee. It is time to coalesce around one person. and McCain is that person." That left some delegates at the state convention disgruntled. Vincent Bruno of Metairie accused some delegates of "putting politics over principle" by abandoning Huckabee in favor of McCain. Rep. John LaBruzzo, R-Metairie, who preferred actor and former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee, said that when Thompson dropped out of the race, he shifted to McCain. "I wish Huckabee was (leading) at this point," said LaBruzzo, who represents a conservative area of East Jefferson. "He is not. My decision is based on beating Obama and Hillary. .¤.¤. It (the GOP nominee) is going to be McCain and we need to get behind him and defeat the greater of two evils, Hillary or Barack Obama." Michelle Gaudin, a New Orleans lawyer and supporter of Texas Congressman Ron Paul, who scored about 5 percent of the vote in last week's primary, tried to challenge the way Saturday's convention was called, saying it was not well publicized to all Republicans in the state who might have wanted to run for one of the 105 delegate slots at the meeting.
We were always in with a chance
Any person, club, organisation or whatever be it in sport or business plays the game to WIN, otherwise why bother. The reason for no relegation this year is that super league franchises are up for grabs next season and if any club does not meet or exceed the franchise criteria they will be out on their ear regardless of where they finish in the table. Clubs who do not reach the minimum criteria off the pitch, note off the pitch, have everything to lose. This means they have to operate as a viable business entity with correct business development plans in place, suitable and safe stadia, local development systems in operation and community programmes established. This has taken a long time to come but in my opinion this takes RL to the next level. Still behind our friends in Oz but this is a positive step in the right direction.
Name room in honor of fallen Foxboro officer
The challengers need to have enough support on the board of selectmen to oust the town manager.Confident that Selectman George Dentino is one sure vote, recall supporters believe that replacing two other selectmen with two more like-minded members will get the job done. If this is accomplished we will be presented with a board whose majority would be focused on a negative mission a mission very much like those signs on the side of a store downtown. These types of missions are embarrassing, not to mention the political mire in which our town will be immersed. Such a board would find itself spending inordinate amounts of their time and our money on something that will eventually play itself out with next spring's town election. If the challengers prove victorious in this recall election, and act hastily on this issue, they could likely expose the town of Mansfield to even more liability.I know Bob Goldman.
