| U.S. defense secretary to begin four-country tour
WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates will depart here for a nine-day trip Wednesday to Australia, Indonesia, India and Turkey, the Pentagon said Tuesday. Gates will join U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte in the annual talks with Australian officials on bilateral security, according to spokesman Geoff Morrell. As a vital mission of the trip, Gates will put arms sales on his agenda in India. "The secretary is always an advocate for U.S. defense companies," Morrell said. On his way abroad, he will make a stopover in Hawaii where the U.S. Pacific Command headquarters are located, the spokesman added. The Pacific islands are also the base for the U.S.

Witnesses Describe Shooting Scene
Yes, more guns, in law abiding citizens hands could have led to fewer deaths, and these insane "Gun Free Zones" need to go, that only prevents the good guys from not carrying his or her gun into these gun free zones to protect themselves, the bad guys will always break the laws. If you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns, think about it. Posted by: Stephanie Location: Iowa on Dec 6, 2007 at 06:31 PM My thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and families as well. I pray for all the families this Christmas and pray they can get through with this all soon! I'm moving to Omaha soon, so Omaha is like my new soon to be home away from home. This hits home for even those not living there. Lots of people here are praying for everyone as well! Folkes' plea to Bulldogs board
I congratulated all the new board members Sunday after the election. I know them all pretty well. I have played a lot of games with most of them. We get on with things. "I'll get on with coaching and they get on with administering and the players get on with playing." Folkes was angry that his coaching position was under review still five days before his club's first trial match of the season. "Every coach is under pressure to perform. Every club is built on the success of their NRL side," he said. "The decision will be made on how successful we are this year. We haven't kicked a ball yet. It's ridiculous to be talking about what's going to happen in '09 when '08 isn't under way yet." Bulldogs chairman George Peponis said he had received assurances from directors that Bennett would not be approached behind Folkes' back.
Sunday night insights
Chelsea Clinton or Sam Woods? -- Tough loss for the SCOREGolf team at Q107's Office Wars last week. Kudos to those who made it out for us so early in the morning – me, I was busy having a staring competition with the back of my eyelids. Bites Why should I spend my Friday afternoon watching Samuel L. Jackson hit bunker shots? Better than spending my Friday night watching him in Snakes on a Plane, I guess -- I'm not keen on the whole celebrity golf thing, but George Lopez entertains the hell out of me -- Had the chance to play the South Course at Torrey Pines in November. The La Jolla muni hosts this week's Buick Invitational and the U.S. Open in June. It's a good course on a great piece of property, but it doesn't come anywhere close to the top 10 courses in this country. Too many mediocre holes and too few on the ocean -- The new PGA Tour cut rule is both difficult to understand and completely unfair, like a jigsaw puzzle without the corner pieces -- You've got the chance to rewrite one section in the Rules of Golf.
Yellow fever control in Cameroon: where are we now and where are we ...
Cameroon is one of 12 African countries which bear most of the global burden of yellow fever. In 2002 the country developed a five-year strategic plan for yellow fever control which included strategies for prevention as well as rapid detection and response to outbreaks when they occur. We have used data collected by the national Expanded Programme on Immunisation to assess the progress made and challenges faced during the first four years of implementing the plan. Methods In January 2003, case-based surveillance of suspected yellow fever cases was instituted in the whole country. A year later, yellow fever immunisation at nine months of age (same age as routine measles immunisation) was introduced. Supplementary immunisation activities (SIA), both preventive and in response to outbreaks, also formed an integral part of the YF control plan.
Sick overstayer threatens suicide
An American overstayer who uses a dialysis machine 12 hours a day is threatening to stop her own treatment and die in Wellington rather than accept deportation. The Immigration Service has booked Lana Schmidt on a flight out of Auckland next Saturday, and warnedit will force her removal if she resists. But Ms Schmidt says she has nowhere to go, there are no arrangements for her continued medical care once she gets to Los Angeles, and she cannot get support from the United States Medicare system till July. Ms Schmidt came to New Zealand in 2000 to be with Zahid Jawad, an Iraqi-born New Zealand citizen whom she met in the US. But after their relationship broke down two years later, her health deteriorated and she suffered kidney failure.
Timber Industry 1991-2000
The 87% of the shares belonging to the American investors were returned to the Ministry of Property of Leningrad region. In February, GKI tried to start a new wave of privatization in the timber industry, further undermining the position of Roslesprom, which managed, but did not own, the country's largest logging enterprises. OAO Severoleseksport was put up for sale. In early April, Roslesprom blocked the sale of Severoleseksport, which was under its control; instead of privatization, it proposed to create the Severoles financial and industrial group, which was supposed to include the Northern Cellulose holding, the Archangelsk Pulp and Paper Combine, the state companies Konoshales and Severoles, the Onega Lumber Combine, a number of lumber mills, Lesobank (Arkhangelsk), and the Timber Leasing company.
