Tories set budget confidence vote for Feb. 28

Shawn, did they say they were going to vote it down or was that Dion that was going to vote it down and Iggy was going to vote for it while Rae got mad and decided to walk out on the vote. Or was it Iggy that was going to walk out on the vote and Rae vote it down. This is all so confusing. It is Dion lrading the liberals, isn't it ? Vancouver, BC, February 15, 2008--(T-Net)--TELUS Corporation today reported fourth quarter 2007 revenue of $2.33 billion, an increase of 3.4 per cent from a year ago. The performance was driven by nine per cent growth in wireless revenue and seven per cent growth in wireline data revenue, partially offset by declines in local and long distance wireline revenues. Net income in the quarter was $400 million and earnings per share (EPS) was $1.23, up 66 per cent and 73 per cent respectively. Net income and EPS included favourable tax related adjustments of approximately $143 million or 44 cents per share, compared to $20 million or six cents a year ago.

Utahns' top issue is U.S. economy

The future of the economy is of utmost concern to Utah Republicans and Democrats.

A Deseret Morning News poll conducted by Dan Jones & Associates shows that 51 percent of Republicans and 45 percent of Democrats who planned to vote in the primary election last week believe the economy is the No. 1 concern facing a new president of the United States.

The war in Iraq was ranked No. 2 in importance to both parties, while national security issues and terrorism ranked third among Republicans polled and health care ranked third among Democrats.

None of the 317 Republican voters polled ranked the environment, taxes or global warming as a concern facing the next American president.

Only 1 percent of the 288 Democrats polled said they believed global warming, energy/oil issues, the budget deficit, environment and immigration were the most important national issue.

Kucinich Bows Out with Dignity, Bangs Anti-War Drum

One man was left out to lead an army that was in full retreat. Shame on the left and the progressive movement in the USA. Get off your lazy collective asses and maybe some progress can be made. Until then, expect just more and WORSE of the same.

Cheers.

A slippery slope for health?

Most European countries operate an insurance-based health care scheme. Citizens are obliged to pay into state-operated or state-recognised insurance funds. Hospitals and general practitioners (and specialists who offer primary consultations) claim back all or part of the costs of treatment from the relevant insurance providers.

There have long been difficulties in citizens getting costs covered by their state-recognised schemes when they seek treatment in a neighbouring country whose facilities are more convenient to travel to (e.g. the German-Dutch border area around Aachen).

Regulation 1408/71 was supposed to deal with this but clearly doesn't. That Regulation, insofar as it covers healthcare, is designed essentially to allow the government of one country to get back from other governments the money spent on treating their citizens.

Kings Blog and Q&A

Sam Amick grew up in the Bay Area town of Pleasanton, Calif., where his hoops inspiration was the Run TMC crew of Golden State that was ruined when the Kings traded for Mitch Richmond in 1991. He headed for Sacramento nonetheless and earned a journalism degree from Sacramento State in 2000 before joining The Bee on a full-time basis in 2002. He assumed the Kings beat before the 2005-06 season. His favorite athlete of all-time is William Nuschler Clark, otherwise known as "Will the Thrill."

Sam can't answer every question that comes his way, but he'll do his best.

February 19, 2008 Let the "second half" begin

PORTLAND - The All-Star break is often looked at as the halfway point of the season, but that's not the case by a longshot. So with 31 games out of 82 left, welcome to the 62.2 percent point Kings fans! The Kings can only hope the home stretch goes a little smoother than its beginning.
