Cliff death still a mystery

HIS death after a 60ft cliff fall is a mystery which may never be solved.

But his family believe caring Keith Hudson may have lost his life as he went to help a friend threatening to jump.

The community support worker for learning disabilities charity Mencap was found dead on rocks after a fall from Old Hartley cliff face, at Seaton Sluice, Northumberland.

A woman friend, who Keith had known for about six years, also plunged from the cliff but was found alive, though barely conscious, near his body.

His distraught parents, Isobel and Keith senior, sister Janice and uncle and aunt Gordon and Helen Wood, firmly believe suicide was not on his mind.

By an ironic twist of fate Keith, 41, of Hunter Avenue, Blyth, may have been there to help a distressed friend who was threatening to jump.

Gilead Submits New Drug Application to U.S. FDA for Aztreonam Lysine ...

Gilead Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq:GILD) today announced the submission of a New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for marketing approval of aztreonam lysine for inhalation (75 mg three times daily), an investigational therapy in development for people with cystic fibrosis (CF) who have pulmonary Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) infection. The NDA is supported by data from two Phase III clinical studies (AIR-CF1 and AIR-CF2) and interim data from an ongoing open-label extension study (AIR-CF3) of patients who participated in AIR-CF1 or AIR-CF2. Aztreonam lysine for inhalation is delivered by the eFlow(R) Electronic Nebulizer (PARI GmbH).

"Chronic pseudomonal airway infection represents the single greatest cause of morbidity and mortality for people with cystic fibrosis, and with a limited number of inhaled antibiotics, there remains a significant unmet medical need," said A.

Healthy US interest in ‘medical tourism’

Two in five Americans would consider travelling abroad for a medical procedure if it cost half the US price and quality was at least equal, according to a Deloitte consumer health report published on Wednesday .

The data highlight the exploding interest in so-called medical tourism, where patients seek treatment for elective surgeries such as hip replacements available more cheaply overseas.

Fact Check: Clinton, Obama & Health Care

What we're looking for is a president we can count on, that you know where that president is yesterday, today and tomorrow," she said in a debate this month. Obama claims he's always said that single-payer is a good idea that can't be achieved now because of the current entrenched system. His campaign says it's actually Clinton who has been all over the map on health care, and specifically on the question of "single-payer" coverage.

THE FACTS:

There is video of Obama telling the AFL-CIO in 2003: "I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer health care program. ... A single-payer health care plan, a universal health plan. And that's what I'd like to see. And as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, we have to take back the House."

Westminster talks to set unionist agenda for the future of Scotland

But not one of the six senior politicians involved will be representing the Scottish Government.Today's meeting – between Labour, Tory and Liberal Democrat politicians – will help create a Scottish Constitutional Commission to deliver more powers for the Scottish Parliament. At the same time, officials in Alex Salmond's office will be planning the next stage of the Scottish Government's National Conversation on Independence.Political experts agree that Scottish politics has now become polarised on constitutional grounds with the unionist parties and their Scottish Constitutional Commission on one side and the SNP's National Conversation on the other. However, there is also considerable scope for confusion, with two separate debates on Scotland's constitutional future going on, one organised by the nationalists and one by the unionists, with neither side willing to get involved with the other.Professor John Curtice, political expert at Strathclyde University, said he believed the Scottish Constitutional Commission has far more potential to change Scottish politics than its nationalist rival.Prof Curtice said: "The National Conversation is a mechanism to encourage debate and perhaps to encourage more support for independence, but the brutal truth is that, as far as holding a referendum is concerned, the votes are not there."The Scottish Constitutional Commission potentially is very important because the parties involved have the votes necessary in both legislatures to pass the necessary legislation."But he added: "Whether it will prove to be more than a talking shop will depend on the attitude of the UK Labour government."Wendy Alexander, for Labour, Annabel Goldie, for the Tories and Nicol Stephen, the Scottish Liberal Democrat leader, are heading south for today's meeting, where they will discuss the commission plans with Des Browne, the Scottish Secretary, and his shadows, Tory David Mundell and Liberal Democrat Alistair Carmicheal.A senior Liberal Democrat source said the party wanted a formal statement from Mr Browne after today's meeting, not just acknowledging the debate, but actively supporting the commission idea.

Women turn on ‘traitor’ Oprah Winfrey for backing Barack Obama

She also has very little experience on her own. She also has a habit of shooting off her mouth and alienating people, which would not be a good thing when dealing with other countries at all. I believe Oprah considered all of this and made a more informed decision. If only more voters could do the same thing America would be a lot better off.

Sheryl Crow's album reflects on survival, heartache

She's not afraid ... of running from what's happening in the world today," he says. "Sheryl, as an artist, has the ability to do what few artists can do."

Crow, who turned 46 on February 11, looks easily two decades younger than her age. She wears formfitting jeans and a clingy top, highlighting her petite, athletic shape. Her hair is a sun-kissed collection of loose curls.

A product of Kennett, Missouri, she lived for years in Los Angeles as a backup singer and then star, and later in Texas, with Armstrong. Now she's made a home in a 154-acre farm outside Nashville, Tennessee.

The intense media interest in her life following the very public breakup with Armstrong and subsequent cancer diagnosis is not something she misses. Her current distance from the tabloids -- and, of course, the new baby -- have helped clear her head.
